Thoughts on AI

Something that’s really been taking a toll on me recently is the widespread use of AI. Scrolling on social media, every other post I see uses AI. And at what cost? The environmental effects of artificial intelligence are truly detrimental. Millions of gallons of water a day are used for cooling data centers.

In recent months, Google has implemented Gemini AI. Google’s cooling centers already use billions of gallons of water in a year. Now that Google is an AI engine too, its water footprint will likely increase exponentially for the 2026 calendar year.

So what can you do about it?

  1. Turn off AI Overview in your Google searches.

  2. Refrain from using ChatGPT or other AI engines.

  3. Reduce your Google searches—so many questions can be answered in books, in articles, and by your peers.
