My Road to Presidency

Since freshman year I was a member of Glen Rock High School’s Students for Environmental Awareness Club. But it wasn’t until sophomore year that I began campaigning for my presidency. At the beginning of the school year, I ran the SEA Club’s table at the club walk-around. I obtained over one hundred signatures from prospective members and interested students. Each club leader had graduated the previous year, so every spot was available: president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary. I ran against one other classmate for the position of president. I talked to each member of the club and encouraged them to vote for me. I also prepared a list of goals I had for the club, as well as initiatives I planned to implement. I won the election by a landslide, and set the precedent for underclassmen obtaining leadership positions. One of my favorite ideas I had come up with for the club was environmental enrichment programs for the town’s elementary schools. We planned to go down to each school’s afterschool programs and teach the children about sustainability and the environment. Now that I have transferred schools, I plan to introduce this idea–and others– to my new environmental club.
